Plastic still has its place — for very heavy cartons, high-speed taping machines or long-haul freight, a machine-applied BOPP tape or premium vinyl tape may be the practical choice. Many businesses use paper tape as the standard and keep plastic for the heavy-duty jobs.
Getting a good seal with paper tape
- Use an "H" or "L" seal pattern: run tape along the centre seam and across both ends so the flaps can't lift.
- Apply to a clean, dry carton: dust and damp reduce adhesion on any tape.
- Press it down: paper tape bonds best with firm pressure along the seam — a quick wipe-down beats a light touch.
- Match tape to carton weight: for heavier or double-wall cartons, reinforce the seal or step up to a heavier-duty tape.
